Award-winning sports comedian, TV writer and podcaster with a decade on the Australian circuit
Andrew 'Barney' Barnett is an award-winning stand-up comedian, writer, and media personality who has built his reputation at the intersection of sport and comedy. He reached the NSW State Final of Raw Comedy in 2010, and has since become a fixture at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Sydney Comedy Festival. His 2015 Sydney Fringe Festival production was described by the Daily Telegraph as a 'knockout show', and that same year he won the comedy prize at the ANZ Blue Rooms Competition during the Sydney Morning Herald's Spectrum Now Festival. In 2016, he was featured in the Sydney Comedy Festival's FRESH program, spotlighting standout emerging talent.
Barney's television career has centred on sports comedy, beginning in 2017 as a writer and sketch performer for The Professor's Second Year Syndrome on Fox League. He went on to co-host The Professor's Late Hit and co-create The Night Watchmen on Fox Cricket alongside James 'The Professor' Rochford. From 2018 to 2022 he contributed to the Not The NRL News segment on Sunday Night with Matty Johns. On radio, he is a regular presenter on SEN across NSW and QLD. He has also built an audience as a podcaster, co-hosting The Professor and Barney Podcast on Kayo Sports and currently co-hosting Not Another F*#ing Rugby League Podcast.
Barney suits events where a warm, sports-literate crowd wants comedy that feels genuinely Australian — relaxed in tone but sharp in execution. His material connects with mixed audiences, sports professionals, and corporate rooms looking for a comedian who can hold a room without showboating. The Daily Telegraph called him 'quick-witted, sharp-tongued' — an assessment that holds across every format he works in.

Andrew Barnett recently performed at the Bayfield Hotels Liquor Industry Trade lunch, which raises money for the Children's Cancer Institute. Andrew performed before an audience of over 160 management and staff of leading liquor suppliers and their key customers. Andrew’s performance was not only extremely amusing, but his tone and material suited the function perfectly. Andrew’s performance helped make the day a success. I would gladly recommend Andrew for any company planning an event.Corporate Partnerships Manager, Children's Cancer Institute
I had the pleasure of working with Andrew for The Arnott's Foundation Trivia Night. After a colleague and I attended a Comedy Night, which he had hosted for Camp Quality, we knew he would be perfect for our event. Andrew was briefed on our event in the days leading up, and on the night, he jumped in and ran the night for us with ease and without any hesitation. Andrew is without a doubt passionate, engaging to his audience and lots of fun to work with. The crowd loved his wit, energy and very funny jokes. I would have no hesitation in recommending or booking for him for future events.National Events & Admin Manager, The Arnott’s Foundation
