Daryl Braithwaite

About Daryl

Daryl Braithwaite first rose to prominence as the lead singer of Sherbet — between 1971 and 1979 the band released 20 national Top 40 singles and 15 albums, becoming the first Australian band to surpass one million dollars in album sales. Their single Howzat reached number one in Australia and New Zealand and the top five in the UK. When Braithwaite returned as a solo artist in 1988, his album Edge reached number one on the ARIA Albums Chart and became the highest-selling album released by CBS/Sony Australia at that time, selling more than 300,000 copies in Australia. His 1990 follow-up Rise achieved multi-platinum status and was the biggest-selling album in Australia in 1991; its lead single The Horses reached number one in Australia in January 1991.

Braithwaite was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame as a solo artist in 2017 — recognition not simply of commercial success but of a career built on emotional authenticity and genuine connection with audiences. His 2017 greatest-hits collection Days Go By debuted at number one on the ARIA Australian Artists Albums Chart and number five on the ARIA Albums Chart, more than 25 years after Rise, demonstrating that his audience has not drifted but deepened. His career has taken him across Australia, North America, Europe, and the UK.

For event organisers, Braithwaite represents something increasingly rare: a performer whose catalogue spans multiple generations in the room simultaneously. His warmth and storytelling carry as much weight as the songs themselves. He is best suited to gala dinners, award nights, corporate celebrations, and retrospective events where the brief is to move an audience rather than simply entertain them.
