Paralympian born without the lower half of his left leg — considered by many to be Australia's most entertaining Paralympian
Don Elgin is a Paralympian with an amazing story to tell. Born without the lower half of his left leg, he spent the first 14 years of his life in and out of hospital — and when he wasn't having surgery, he was playing sport. From there he climbed to the top of the world in elite sport. He went on to serve as Team Manager for the Australian Paralympic athletics team for London 2012, flag bearer at the 2006 World Games and commentator at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. He also founded the world's first amputee management company, managing many of Australia's top Paralympians, and co-authored the book Success is a Choice.
What sets Don apart is the way he tells his story. Considered by many to be Australia's most entertaining Paralympian, he is repeatedly described by clients as engaging, honest and down to earth — an ordinary person with an extraordinary story. He challenges audiences to redefine what they think of as "normal", lifting the mood of a room from the moment he speaks. A father of four, he lives by his motto: 'if you can't win, make the person in front break the record'.
Audiences leave Don's sessions with a genuine shift in what they believe they are capable of — clients report his message lasting long after the event itself. He speaks on goal setting, positive attitude, overcoming adversity and team building from the sports field to the boardroom, and is equally at home as an MC. For conferences, team days and awards nights, Don Elgin delivers something rare: a presentation that amuses, inspires and challenges in equal measure.

I wish we'd had more time to have more of Don Elgin. He lifted the mood of the room as soon as he spoke, telling terrific, authentic, stories about his childhood. He challenged us all to redefine what we think of as "normal" and has inspired me to encourage "too many" people to get involved in driving a more inclusive community.National Australia Bank
Don Elgin was an outstanding success. His bright, engaging personality, and natural sense of humour meant that staff could relate to him. Don is an ordinary person with an extraordinary story. Don is certainly entertaining, but more than that, he is positively inspirational.Australia Post
I thought Don Elgin was the perfect choice and I wasn't disappointed. He doesn't just inspire you for the hour he speaks, he leaves you with a lasting impression that I know will last a lifetime.Nillumbik Shire Council
