About Lydia

Lydia Lassila OAM is a five-time Winter Olympian and an aerial skiing gold medallist — Australia's first female winter athlete to compete at five Games. She won gold at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010 and bronze at the Sochi Olympics in 2014, with numerous World Cup wins and podium finishes along the way, before competing at her fifth Games in PyeongChang in 2018. Her Sochi bronze came on a quad-twisting triple somersault, a jump no woman had landed in competition; she came down hard on it, but the attempt still put her on the podium. Her accolades include the Don Award, Athlete of the Year by the Australian Institute of Sport, Ski and Snowboard Australia Athlete of the Year and the Order of Australia Medal. Her life and sporting pursuits are chronicled in the 2016 feature documentary The Will To Fly, and she competed on Australian Survivor in the Champions tribe.
