Australia's most successful Paralympian — 13 Paralympic golds, 23 Paralympic medals, multiple world records
Matthew Cowdrey OAM is Australia's most successful Paralympian of all time. He has won an extraordinary 13 Paralympic gold medals and 23 Paralympic medals in total, alongside World Championship and Commonwealth Games glory — and he achieved all of it by the age of 24. A multiple world-record holder, he broke his first world record at just 13 years of age and went on to become one of the top amputee athletes in the world. In 2009 he was named Young South Australian of the Year.
Matthew's story is not simply one of medals. It is the story of a teenager who refused to let disability define what was possible, who tackled obstacles head on, and who turned challenge into the foundation of a record that no Australian Paralympian has surpassed. His achievements earned him induction into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
Audiences leave with a concrete understanding of what overcoming adversity actually looks like — not as an abstract idea, but as a discipline practised daily from childhood to the top of world sport. For motivational keynotes, sporting dinners and conferences on resilience and performance, Matthew Cowdrey brings the credibility of the most decorated Paralympic career in Australian history and a message about confronting challenges that applies well beyond the pool.
