Australian cricket legend, 212 Test wickets — an entertainer and MC with stories that fill any room.
Merv Hughes is one of the great characters of Australian cricket — a fast bowler who played 53 Test matches for Australia between 1985 and 1994, took 212 wickets, and did all of it with a combative spirit, a big moustache and an unshakeable sense of humour. His battles with the best batsmen in the world produced some of the most talked-about moments in Australian cricket history, and his personality made him a fan favourite well beyond the boundary rope.
On stage, Merv brings the energy and warmth that made him a beloved figure throughout his playing career and beyond. As a Master of Ceremonies, after-dinner speaker or motivational keynote presenter, he delivers anecdotes from thirty years in and around cricket with the timing of a natural entertainer. His stories from the Australian dressing room are vivid, funny and often deeply revealing about what it takes to perform at the highest level under sustained pressure.
For corporate events, dinners and sporting gatherings where the brief is a room that finishes the night talking about the entertainment, Merv Hughes is the real deal. He connects effortlessly with audiences of all kinds, has a genuine gift for reading a room, and leaves people with both the laughs and the odd unexpected insight.
