About Ray

Ray O'Leary is a New Zealand comedian and writer recognised by his deadpan delivery and his now-iconic grey suit. He has been twice nominated for the New Zealand Comedy Festival's Billy T James Award and has won NZ Comedy Guild Awards for Best Joke and Best TV Comedy Performance, along with multiple nominations for Best Male Comedian. His 2023 Australian debut — the show Everything Funny All The Time Always — sold out and earned him a nomination for Best Newcomer at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Ray is a regular on Australasian television, appearing on Have You Been Paying Attention?, Thank God You're Here, Cheap Seats, and SBS's Patriot Brains, hosted by Bill Bailey and Sue Perkins. He writes regularly for Cheap Seats and Have You Been Paying Attention? in Australia, and appears and writes on 7 Days in New Zealand. His philosophy podcast Socrates Walks Into A Bar won Best Comedy Podcast at the NZ Podcast Awards in 2022. He has performed alongside Flight of the Conchords and Rhys Darby, and his 2024 tour Your Laughter Is Just Making Me Stronger took in Australia, New Zealand, and the Edinburgh Fringe.

Ray's style — deliberate, precise, and built to make an audience lean in — rewards patience with consistent, substantial laughs. He is a versatile choice for events that want something a little left-of-centre without sacrificing broad appeal: corporate evenings, comedy festivals, and panel-show formats all suit his particular rhythm and deadpan command.
