Comedy writer, performer, and co-creator behind Hamish & Andy's Gap Year — now appearing in major Hollywood films and selling out The Imperfects live tour
Ryan Shelton is a comedy writer, performer, producer, and artist who began his career in 2003 on Melbourne's Channel 31 alongside Hamish Blake, Andy Lee, and Tim Bartley. As co-director of production company Radio Karate, he has produced several award-winning television series including Hamish & Andy's Gap Year and True Story with Hamish & Andy — a format remade in France, Germany, Spain, and on NBC's Peacock in the United States, all with Ryan's close creative consultation. He first broke through to a broad audience as a regular cast member on Rove Live between 2007 and 2009, and in 2015 created How to Life, a series of online Comedy Blaps for Channel 4 in the UK.
In 2024, Ryan appeared in Peter Farrelly's feature film Ricky Stanicky alongside John Cena, Zac Efron, and William H Macy, and was subsequently invited back for Farrelly's upcoming film Ball's Up, starring Mark Wahlberg and Paul Walter Hauser. His podcast The Imperfects — co-hosted with Hugh van Cuylenburg — consistently sits in the top 10 mental health podcasts in Australia, and the live stage version sold out nationally in 2023 and 2024, with a new tour returning in 2025. In 2025 he also opened his debut art exhibition All This Work, Just For This — a collection of paintings, sculptures, and videos — at a Fitzroy gallery.
Ryan is an unusually versatile booking: a performer with decades of behind-the-scenes production experience, major Hollywood credits, a top-rating podcast, and a genuine track record on Australian stages and screens. For events looking for a comedian with warmth, creative credibility, and broad name recognition across both corporate and general audiences, he is a distinctive and reliable option.
