Perth comedian and MC known as 'Buddha' — former cricket coach, Locker Room Laughs creator, trusted by Canva and Woodside
Brian Shields — known as Buddha — is a Perth-based stand-up comedian, MC and former professional cricket coach who spent more than a decade coaching at the WACA. He has performed alongside international acts including Chris D'Elia, Jeremy Piven and Maz Jobrani, and is trusted by organisations including Canva, Woodside, Shell, the WA Police Union, the West Coast Eagles, UFC and the Perth Scorchers to host and entertain at conferences, gala dinners and corporate events.
Shields is the creator of Locker Room Laughs — a live format blending stand-up comedy with unfiltered conversations featuring elite athletes. The shows sell out. His background in elite sport gives him a credibility with sporting organisations and leadership groups that comedians without that experience rarely carry, while his comedy instinct keeps even serious occasions moving with confidence and energy.
As an MC, he reads the room, elevates key moments and keeps audiences connected from start to finish. The WA Police Union has brought him back three years in a row for their annual conference dinner. Canva's Founder and COO described him as outstanding. Whether the brief is pure comedy, a Taskmaster-style team building session or a polished conference host, Brian Shields delivers what the room needs — and usually a bit more.
