Oxford-educated risk advice specialist who built a client base of 400 from scratch — now training financial advisers to sell protection with confidence.
Chris Unwin is a specialist sales trainer and risk adviser with over 30 years' experience in the finance industry. A graduate of Oxford University with a law degree, he began his career as a commission-only life insurance broker in London, quickly building a client base of 400 and managing a team of 14 brokers. In 1989 he relocated to Sydney to help establish a new office for his firm, training and mentoring hundreds of new advisers in both generic sales skills and specialised risk advice. By 2004 he had become Director of Training within a large dealer group before returning to his core focus: providing personalised protection advice and developing sales professionals.
What makes Chris distinctive is the combination of practitioner credibility and training discipline he brings to every session. He has never left the coalface — maintaining an active role as a specialist risk adviser while simultaneously delivering workshops on engagement skills, sales communication, and risk advice strategy. His direct communication style and refusal to deal in theory for its own sake have made him a trusted resource for financial planners, mortgage brokers, and retail sales consultants across Australia. His consulting business has helped thousands of professionals improve their skills and client outcomes.
Chris is well suited to financial services conferences, dealer group training days, industry association events, and any organisation looking to lift risk advice conversion or improve client engagement. His sessions range from full-day intensives on the end-to-end risk advice process to focused one-hour workshops on specific skills, and he brings the same grounded, practical approach to each.
Chris Unwin is a keynote speaker who speaks on business strategy, finance & economics and sales. Book through Executive Speakers Australia.
I have been involved in the Life Insurance business since 1983 and have attended workshops and seminars on a regular basis, but it has been a long time since I have benefited from so much knowledge, ideas and enthusiasm compressed into your one day workshop. The concepts and ideas are equally relevant in simple "Mum and Dad" situations as well as the most complex cases in Business Insurance that we encounter in our profession. I recommend that any adviser, both established or new to our industry, attend any future workshops that you run. In addition, I believe that all Life Offices should assist you in "spreading the message" to the benefit of all.Million Dollar Round Table
