About Dan

Dan Sims is an award-winning wine educator, promoter, and commentator whose career in wine began in 1996 at Walter's Wine Bar in Melbourne. He went on to head the sommelier team at Taxi Dining Room, where he was part of a team that won the Restaurant of the Year Award in the Good Food Guide in 2006. The following year, he was awarded the inaugural Sommelier of the Year by The Age Good Food Guide — the first person to hold that title. He later became head sommelier at Fifteen. During his time at Prince Wine Store, the wine list earned a prestigious three-glass award from the Wine List of the Year Awards.

Dan's credentials are built from the floor up — from wine bars to award-winning restaurants, from retail to recognition as the city's best sommelier. His knowledge is the product of decades spent learning from producers, working with wine in real dining contexts, and communicating its pleasures to guests at every level of experience.

For corporate events, wine tastings, hospitality industry functions, and any occasion where guests want to learn as much as they enjoy, Dan Sims offers expertise that is genuine and a communication style that is engaging and unpretentious. He meets audiences where they are — and leaves them knowing more, enjoying more, and seeing wine with fresh eyes.
