A former President of the National Speakers Association of Australia, he is also a multiple national judo champion and a five-star Fringe writer, director, and performer — a combination that gives him an unusually broad understanding of what it takes to hold an audience's attention under pressure. His career began as a jackaroo in the Northern Territory, moved through accountancy study to a top-ranking sales role at Yellow Pages Australia, and in 1999 he founded his own training and conference company.
