Adelaide's award-winning TV weather presenter, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist — meteorology meets music
Jessica Braithwaite is the main weather presenter for Adelaide's flagship 6pm News bulletin on Nine — an award-winning broadcaster whose background spans meteorology, songwriting and live performance. Her pop ballad Who You Know reached number one on Australia's AMRAP radio charts; a Christmas release debuted at number five on the iTunes Rock Charts and earned her the title of 'Queen of Christmas' from The Daily Mail.
The combination of science training and musical instinct is genuinely unusual. Braithwaite plays guitar, piano, harmonica and tap dancing percussion, and has performed at the Big Day Out, The Ashes and Carols By Candlelight for 40,000 people. She co-hosts Nine's home and lifestyle program Building Ideas and hosts the Adelaide International tennis via Wide World of Sports and Tennis Australia. She has co-hosted the Australian Independent Music Awards with Dylan Lewis since 2020. Before any of this, at age 20, she moved to Chile to study journalism and photography — writing songs in Spanish and later volunteering in South Africa teaching music at a remote orphanage while assisting at a health clinic.
Braithwaite works well for events that want an MC who can also perform — or a performer who can also anchor proceedings. Gala events, industry awards nights, charity fundraisers and outdoor festivals all suit her range. The meteorology credential, the chart success and the international backstory give her genuine substance to draw on when the evening calls for more than just good hosting.
