Indigenous soccer player, artist, counsellor, founder of Changing the Odds — front-line youth empowerment advocate.
Kaiden Powell is an Indigenous Australian soccer player, artist, counsellor, and the founder of Changing the Odds — an initiative working directly with Indigenous young people on mental health, drug and alcohol awareness, and the practical conditions for a different kind of future. He also founded the CTO clothing label, turning his creative practice into a platform for the same values his counselling work embodies. Kaiden is not a commentator on Indigenous youth issues — he is embedded in them, working at the front line rather than describing it from a distance.
His story is one of navigation across multiple worlds — elite sport, creative practice, community service, and the lived experience of being a young Indigenous Australian in a system that has not always made space for people like him. The combination gives him a fluency that is rare: he can speak to young people who feel entirely outside the mainstream with the credibility of someone who has been there, and he can speak to organisations and governments about what genuine investment in Indigenous youth actually requires — not charity, but respect, structural commitment, and a willingness to follow the lead of communities themselves.
For youth conferences, Indigenous affairs forums, diversity and inclusion events, and organisations working in education and social services, Kaiden Powell offers a perspective that challenges comfortable assumptions. His sessions are not about statistics or policy — they are about people, about what young Australians on the margins actually need, and about what happens when they are given the tools and the belief to build something of their own. Audiences leave with a more honest picture of both the challenge and the possibility.
