Louisa "Lulu" Hawton is a two-time world boxing champion, holding the WBO female light-flyweight title in 2016 and the WBC interim female atomweight title since 2019. Known in the ring as "Bang Bang Lulu — The Smiling Assassin", she built that career in a sport that has historically offered very little space to women, particularly in Australia, through a combination of technical mastery and a mental toughness that the sport's demands require in abundance. A former professional skateboarder, she was in 2023 one of three contestants to reach the summit in Channel 9's survival competition The Summit, taking a share of the prize.
Hawton's work in youth and female empowerment is not a pivot from her athletic career — it is a direct extension of it. She has spent 15 years as a speaker and facilitator, and advocates for women and young people on resilience, mental health and competing in male-dominated spaces. She understands from her own experience what it is like to pursue excellence in an environment that was not designed with her in mind, and what it costs and what it builds.
