First double amputee to summit Everest — scientist, winemaker, Paralympic silver medallist and author of five books.
Mark Inglis lost both legs at 23 years old due to frostbite sustained while trapped on Mount Cook. Rather than marking the end of his ambitions, it became the beginning of a career built on redefining the possible. In 2006, he became the first double amputee to stand on the summit of Mount Everest — an achievement that sits alongside a Paralympic silver medal in para cycling, won in the 1000m time trial at the 2000 Sydney Games, a Doctor of Natural Resources honoris causa, and an appointment as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit. He is a published author of five books, two of which were finalists in the New Zealand Book of the Year Awards.
What distinguishes Inglis as a speaker is the range he brings beyond the mountains. He has carved out careers as a scientist, a winemaker, a business innovator, a trekking guide and an international motivational speaker. His keynote draws on the role of critical decision-making in extreme environments and applies it directly to how teams operate under pressure — exploring how passion and attitude can make the impossible become possible, whether on a summit or in a boardroom. He also delivers an interactive team-building simulation built around mountaineering and decision-making, suitable for groups of any size.
Audiences hear a first-hand account of what sustained ambition looks like when the physical terms of it change. Beyond the keynote, Inglis presents The Mountain Choice, a team-building and problem-solving program, and Present with Confidence and Style, which examines how presenters are perceived and how to hold a room through the difficult moments. He also works as an MC. The material suits conferences, leadership programs, team offsites and awards events that call for a speaker who has lived what he describes.
Mark Inglis is a keynote speaker based in New Zealand who speaks on inspiration, leadership and motivation. Book through Executive Speakers Australia.
Mark describes how, with passion and attitude, the impossible becomes possible in both the tough world of the mountains and the boardrooms.
Mark’s team-building and decision-making program uses mountaineering and the role of critical decision-making as a core theme. It is an interactive simulation involving problem solving as individuals, as members of a group and even between groups. Suitable for any number of participants. Mark has delivered this effectively with a wide range of corporate groups.
The aim is to encourage a greater feel for not just who you are but how others see and hear you. It isn’t just how you speak or how you stand but also how you handle the difficult moments that is so important in making the right impression.
It was a tremendous opening for our event and was very well received by our delegates, many of whom made a point of remarking upon what an inspiring and thought provoking presentation it was. Personally, I enjoyed it enormously and was both educated and entertained by your exploits as well as being awed by the enormity of your undertaking. Your visual and verbal address was exceptionally good.Melanie
Your participation on our awards evening was absolutely sensational. The hype and positive attitude you created was nothing short of brilliant. And, the guys just loved the interaction and the intimacy of the wine discussions, and also the honesty and drama of your exploits. You really made the evening for our stores.Vaughan
Mark's presentation was awesome. It has given our team great inspiration. Just having Mark there proved to be a really good draw card, getting the biggest turnout I've seen here.Warren
