Midge Ure is a Scottish musician, producer and singer-songwriter who enjoyed international success with Silk, Thin Lizzy and Ultravox before becoming one of the most significant figures in the history of charitable fundraising. In 1984, he co-wrote and produced “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” with Bob Geldof — a record that sold millions globally and triggered the fundraising phenomenon that followed. He was a co-organiser of Band Aid, Live Aid and Live 8, events that collectively redefined what popular music could accomplish in service of a humanitarian cause.
