Group Manager, Future Low Carbon Portfolio at AGL Energy and founder of AGECEI — clean energy and gender equity.
Naureen Alam MIEAust CPEng NER is Group Manager of Future Low Carbon Portfolio at AGL Energy, where she leads a team developing clean energy generation and storage projects across Australia. She is also the founder of AGECEI, a social enterprise dedicated to advancing gender equality in the energy and climate industry. In 2021 she was named Women’s Agenda Emerging Leader in Technology and received EnergyLab’s Women in Climate and Energy Fellowship, and in 2020 she was a finalist for Engineers Australia Young Engineer of the Year. A chartered chemical engineer, she holds a master’s degree in sustainability leadership.
Naureen’s distinctive contribution is her simultaneous focus on two of the most critical challenges in the energy sector: decarbonisation and inclusion. Her technical work on clean energy infrastructure is matched by her advocacy against the systemic barriers that keep women and other underrepresented groups out of the sector — and she speaks from direct experience about the connection between the two. Her work on imposter syndrome and data-driven inclusion brings rigour to conversations that often lack it.
For energy industry, sustainability, STEM, women’s leadership and diversity conferences, Naureen Alam is an authoritative and engaging speaker. She combines technical expertise with personal storytelling, and speaks on using data to overcome imposter syndrome, building inclusive cultures, retaining female engineers and STEM leaders, developing net zero and ESG strategy, and the emerging clean generation and storage technology coming to Australia.
