Peter Bol is an Australian Olympic 800m runner who has competed at three Games. He was Australia's first Olympic 800m finalist in over half a century, finishing fourth in the Tokyo 2020 final; he holds the Australian 800m record of 1:44.00, set at the Paris Diamond League in 2022, and won silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Born in Khartoum, Sudan, he came to Australia as a child after his family fled the civil war, and his story is inseparable from the broader conversation about identity, opportunity and what Australia looks like to its newest arrivals.
