Mountaineer with five Everest expeditions and all Seven Summits — the first second-generation summiteer
Peter Hillary grew up in a household where adventure was a way of life, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Sir Edmund Hillary. His own record stands on its merits: 50 mountaineering expeditions worldwide, including five on Mt Everest and all Seven Summits, making him the first second-generation summiteer. His expeditions include the first high-altitude traverse of the Himalayan Range — a 5,000 kilometre, ten-month journey from Sikkim to Pakistan at an average altitude of over 4,000 metres — and travelling to the North Pole alongside his father and astronaut Neil Armstrong. He has authored seven books and produced documentaries for National Geographic.
Peter's story carries weight beyond the summits. On K2, one of the world's most treacherous mountains, he turned back 400 metres from the top just before a horrifying storm hit — a storm that took the lives of all seven of his climbing colleagues. And the Hillary legacy is as much about giving back as climbing: as Chair of the Himalayan Trust founded by his father, Peter has overseen the construction of 42 schools and hospitals at the base of Mt Everest, built in collaboration with the local mountain communities.

The focus of the weekend was on leadership and Peter captured that beautifully. Peter Hillary really connected with the group, which clearly demonstrates what a great communicator he is. He combined all the right elements – motivation, aspiration, leadership, boldness and bravery – as well as being highly entertaining and down to earth. I can't thank him enough for helping to make the weekend such an outstanding success.Qantas
