Despite that, he started his first business, Video Gold, at 22 and grew it to a turnover of $90 million in under three years. His revolutionary copy-depth leasing programme — new release movies for $1 a day — changed the video industry overnight and was responsible for the emergence of large shopping centre-style video libraries. After experiencing bankruptcy at 29, he rebuilt his career by purchasing the Video Ezy chain and transforming it from 13 stores to 360 nationwide before selling the franchise in 1998.
