Brisbane Broncos and Australia prop, three-time Dally M Prop of the Year, now farmer and workplace safety advocate.
Shane Webcke played 12 seasons with the Brisbane Broncos at the highest level of Australian Rugby League, making 254 club appearances between 1995 and 2006 — earning three Dally M Prop of the Year awards, 21 State of Origin appearances for Queensland and 26 Test matches for Australia. He captained Queensland in Game I of the 2004 series. He was one of the most respected players of his generation, not only for his physical output but for the character he brought to the game. His father died in a workplace accident. That loss — and the way it shaped his understanding of safety, responsibility and what working men and women carry with them — became central to who he is beyond football. He is now a farmer and a businessman, and was the sports presenter on Seven News Brisbane until 2024.
Webcke speaks about workplace safety not as a compliance obligation but as a deeply personal subject. The loss of his father to an industrial accident gives his advocacy a weight and specificity that no training module can replicate. When he talks about what it costs a family when someone doesn't come home from work, he speaks from inside that experience. It changes the conversation.
For mining, construction, agriculture and transport conferences — as well as broader leadership and culture events where safety is part of the agenda — Shane Webcke delivers a message that lands differently to most. He does not lecture. He shares. And because his credibility is built on elite sport, personal loss and genuine regional life rather than a corporate career, he connects with blue-collar and trade audiences in a way that very few speakers on the circuit can. The result is not just a moving presentation — it is a shift in how people think about the person working beside them.
