Olympic and Commonwealth Games distance runner — on consistency, longevity and quiet excellence.
Steve Moneghetti's distance-running career spanned four Olympic Games and four Commonwealth Games, and he collected medals of every colour along the way: Commonwealth marathon gold at Victoria in 1994, silver at Auckland in 1990 and bronze at Edinburgh in 1986, plus a 10,000m bronze at Kuala Lumpur in 1998. He finished fifth in the marathon at Seoul in 1988, his best Olympic result, and took bronze in the marathon at the 1997 World Championships. He set the course record for Sydney's City to Surf in 1991 and is the only man to have won that race four years in succession, from 1988 to 1991.
The story Steve tells today is largely about consistency — the unglamorous reality of two-a-day training across a working life, the small habits that compound over decades, and what it means to keep showing up well after the headlines stop. It's a message that lands particularly well with corporate audiences who recognise the long-game discipline required to build a quality career in any field.
Since retiring from competition he has held senior roles in Australian sport, serving as Chef de Mission of the Australian team at the Delhi 2010, Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, and as Mayor of the Commonwealth Games Village in Melbourne in 2006. He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2014 for significant service to athletics. For event organisers, Steve is a strong fit for sales kickoffs, learning days, wellbeing programs and conferences where the brief is to send people home thinking about the long-term shape of excellence rather than chasing the next quick win.

Steve Moneghetti was a terrific fit for our Keystone Radiology Conference opening speaker. He was both motivating and inspiring. Our theme for the conference was “Pathways to Excellence” and Steve was able to seamlessly weave this theme into his presentation. Our team came away clear on what it takes to be a high performing individual, regardless of your chosen vocation. Overall, Steve is a charismatic presenter who held the attention of our entire group. We would highly recommend him for any company considering enlisting the services of a motivational presenter for their team.Keystone Radiology
