Criminologist, ABC Crime Night! panellist who makes the science of crime actionable for organisations.
Dr David Bartlett is one of Australia's most recognised criminologists and risk experts, known publicly as an expert panellist on the ABC series Crime Night. His career spans the justice, health, and education sectors — a breadth that allows him to speak with equal authority on crime prevention, psychological risk, and evidence-based organisational practice. He has founded and served on charity boards, built a thriving allied health practice, and held senior roles in the public sector before moving into academia.
As a multi award-winning university lecturer with more than 15 years of teaching experience, David has developed an approach to complex material that is clear, evidence-based, and immediately applicable. He draws on his doctoral research and extensive corporate training experience to deliver sessions across areas including negotiation skills, risk-based regulation, workplace wellbeing, and the protection of vulnerable people. In a media environment crowded with commentators, his credibility comes from genuine academic and practitioner grounding rather than public profile alone.
David is well suited to corporate risk events, public sector conferences, workplace safety forums, and leadership gatherings where audiences want substance over style. His sessions are known for being grounded in the specific context of the organisation — he researches his clients before he arrives and connects theory to their real operating environment. For event organisers who need a speaker who is both compelling and credible on sensitive topics, David brings rare depth.
