Future Crunch

Dr Angus Hervey and Tané Hunter — rocket fuel for the brain, grounded optimism about technology and the future.

About Future

Future Crunch is the venture of Dr Angus Hervey and Tané Hunter, a political economist, journalist and scientist whose collective work has made them one of the most distinctive and uplifting voices in the global conversation about technology, innovation and the future. Dr Hervey holds a PhD in International Political Economy from the London School of Economics, was the founding community manager of Random Hacks of Kindness — a global initiative from Google, IBM, Microsoft, NASA and the World Bank — and was the first editorial manager for Global Policy journal. Together, Future Crunch are known for their ability to cut through the anxious noise of technological disruption with evidence, energy and genuine intellectual depth.

Their presentations sit at the intersection of science, economics, data and culture, built around the conviction that the future is more positive than the headlines suggest — and that organisations and individuals who understand this have a decisive advantage over those who don't. Future Crunch are not naive optimists; their case for hope is grounded in research, statistics and the stories of real people solving real problems around the world. What they offer audiences is not reassurance but perspective — and perspective, they argue, is the foundation of adaptability.

For technology, innovation, leadership and futures-focused conferences, Future Crunch deliver one of the most memorable and cited keynote experiences available anywhere. Their sessions on the Adaptability Quotient and the Full Stack Human give audiences specific frameworks for navigating complexity, and their immersive workshop experience translates those frameworks into team-level action. In a speaking landscape crowded with doom and disruption, Future Crunch are a genuinely energising outlier.

What clients say about Future Crunch

In planning for our event, we asked ourselves if we could deliver the tried and trusted conference format online - and with the same impact. Future Crunch communicated big ideas in succinct and practical nuggets which inspired our audience. The dynamic duo of Tane and Lilian were spirited and energetic, firing on all cylinders in a well-planned virtual workshop with the right amount of detail and a clear subject matter. This was our first fully virtual event attempted and was an enormous success due to their ability to adapt and accommodate our needs in delivering online to live audience members with a good level of interaction.
Country Director, Merck, Sharp & Dohme NZ
Our online event was a stellar success and one which has sent internal tongues wagging about the quality of the product and received rave reviews from the customers and partners in attendance. This result was in no small part, down to the stellar work Future Crunch provided in their virtual keynote. We all sat and watched in awe as comment after comment sailed by in the keynote chat window, as our customers and partners were touched and took great value from their message. We were delighted to work with them. The insight and performance were one thing – the humanity and honesty of approach was another thing entirely. The way in which they co-developed our vision and brought it to life, was not merely another small step for our organisation in achieving its goals of driving human innovation, rather, they distilled and brought to life the positivity and hope we have in enabling our customers to create a better world. Thank you. We are delighted with the final outcome.

Thank you to Future Crunch for an incredible talk. The feedback that we've had has been exceptional. Many students spoke of being amazed at the rate of progress and inspired by the future that awaits us. The story of the cardboard box hospital beds was particularly well-received. The students were also impressed by your good humour and the all-round professionalism of the delivery. Thank you for bringing some optimism to the medical school!
